چکیده
Among others, dam-break waves are a common representation for tsunami near- or on-shore as well large storm riding on top of surge water levels at coasts. These extreme hydrodynamic events frequent cause destruction and losses along coastlines worldwide. Free-surface aeration in dam break waves: an experimental study
New air–water flow experiments were conducted in the leading edge of dam break waves. The data highlighted the chaotic nature of the surge and provided new insights in the distributions of void fraction, velocity and air/water chord sizes. The results demonstrated a highly aerated surge front with a developing turbulent boundary layer. At the leading edge, observed mean air contents exceeded 40 ...
متن کاملUnsteady Two-Phase Flow Measurements in Surges and Dam Break Waves
Flood waves resulting from dam breaks and flash floods have been responsible for numerous losses. In the present study, sudden flood releases were investigated down a large stepped waterway initially dry. A new experimental technique was developed to obtain instantaneous void fractions, bubble count rates and velocities. Unsteady air-water flow properties were recorded with arrays of conductivi...
متن کاملDam Break Wave of Thixotropic Fluid
Thixotropy is the characteristic of a fluid to form a gelled structure over time when it is not subjected to shearing, and to liquefy when agitated. Thixotropic fluids are commonly used in the construction industry e.g., liquid concrete and drilling fluids , and related applications include some forms of mud flows and debris flows. This paper describes a basic study of dam break wave with thixo...
متن کاملA Dam Break Analysis Using HEC-RAS
This paper firstly described the dam break in the aspects of theories and models. Break parameters prediction, the understanding of dam break mechanics, peak outflow prediction were shown as the essential for the dam break analysis, and eventually determined the loss of the damages. Secondly, as an application example, Foster Joseph Sayers Dam break was further modeled and analyzed using USACE ...
متن کاملRivers dam waves of rabies.
E stablished and emerging infectious diseases of humans and animals are an ever-increasing threat. A key question in disease dynamics is how infection moves in space and time. The most dramatic manifestations of disease spread are waves of infection, often moving across great distances. These waves arise particularly during invasions of pathogens into susceptible territory (1). However, the int...
